Video Transcript:

This episode is going to be all about managing the stress that we have.

[00:54] So we need to come up with good ways to manage what happens to us. there’s that saying out there that says, you know, don’t ask for an easier life. Ask for stronger shoulders to carry the burden with it.

stress is going to keep happening and it’s inevitable, it’s not going to stop.

We have to come up with good ways to manage it so it doesn’t overwhelm us.

what we’re learning is that some of the calls that we go on and becomes cumulative. in my earlier years stuff never bothered me and I’ve gotten older and had a family.

[01:39] especially dealing with young kids. you see people your age that something happens. You can relate to them. it’s a reminder of life short and, and bad things can happen because we have to appreciate the thing.

So how do we go about managing the stress? And there’s all different ways out there.

You know, I’m not a doctor, not trained in it, but I can share with what has helped me and what I’ve learned. I, I like to try different things out and see what’s going to help me out. And um, you know, there, there’s two ways to handle. There’s healthy ways and I don’t know, healthy ways.

So I want to talk about the unhealthy way first. and some of the unhealthy could be your short term at helps on the short term and what am I talking about?

[02:24] I’m talking about hitting the bottle and the bottle or pills or whatever else. Something that’s prescribed it. It’s, it’s, um, what it is, is it, it’s an, it numbs it, right? The stress is still there. Once the effects wear off or whatever was taken to help cope with it.

they say everything in moderation is okay. It’s just when it starts compounding some things. It’s a short term relief, it actually doesn’t solve the issue of managing the stress. So, so think of it as numbing when he takes up resort to something like that.

[03:08] It’s just, it just numbs it, right? It doesn’t go away, but there’s healthy ways and that’s why I want to focus on with this and I’m just going to give a few takeaways.

A lot of this is going to be trial and error on your part. what I found three main ones and then there’s other things I do, but I’m going to keep this about some three examples. And one of the biggest which is, um, I think he is going to be what we eat. How are we consuming food, you know, are we focusing on. And everyone’s got different ways of eating. Basically you gotta eat away, that’s gonna make you feel better. And what I found with me as I stick with whole foods as possible. , if I can’t grow it in my garden, if I can’t catch it in the water or find it on a farm, trying not to eat it.

[03:54] I worked with a guy and he has gone Vegan and he says he , his energy’s through the roof and he just feels better. So that worked for him. Um, I cooked up some really delicious steaks yesterday. staying away from your process stuff because it’s full of a lot of sugar and extra ingredients that you don’t realize. And here’s the thing, you don’t realize it until you start eating better of how much better your field. And um, but we had to start doing stuff to help us because we can’t resort to think of someone else is going to solve our problems. So these are key things to do. So focusing on how you’re consuming what you’re eating, right? Stick with as healthy as possible.

[04:32] Everyone’s got different definitions of it. Mine’s gonna be simple, stick with whole foods, you know, stuff you can grow or hunting. Um, and after that’s going to come exercise, there’s so many different ways out there. The biggest thing with exercise though is going to be doing whatever you enjoy because you have to do this regularly. Um, it’s not something due once a week. It’s, it’s ideally every day. Maybe it’s lifting weights, maybe it’s running, swimming, doing a sport, cycling, whatever it is. You have to find something that you’re gonna, break a sweat your heart rate up. If you’re not getting your heart rate up, you’re not getting the true benefits of it. focus on your diet and focus on exercising regularly. , some of the guys that seem to have a lot of problems are the ones who aren’t doing these good activities.

[05:18] And the third big one is meditation. And I’m going to give you guys an example of when you combine all three of these, how it goes. So I explored meditation back probably over four years ago and I’ve been doing it regularly ever since.. I practice a transcendental meditation. you can even be as simple as getting an APP though. listening to binaural beats sends you in like almost a rem sleep. set a timer so you don’t fall asleep and spend there an hour. that’s a quick way if you have trouble meditating, there’s training programs go through with it, but it’s something that if you’re not already doing, I strongly suggest you explore that. And so what happens when we put all three of these together? Quality in life, you know, I was talking about how stress is never going to stop.

[06:09] There’s always going to be something that happens and it’s going to push you over the limit. So think of it like this. I got a cup of water here, and if you’re not having the built in ways to help manage it and you’re talking about diet, exercise, and meditation, any little thing that happens to you, it’s going to push you over the edge. And when you get pushed over the edge, you lose your temper. You get upset, the cup over pills, right? That’s kind of like if you hear someone, hey, they got a short fuse but probably stressed and they’re not able to manage it well, so every little thing spills over causing the issues. So if you’re resorting to two, um, alcohol or some other things on a regular basis, there’s still overflowing, right? But it’s numb. So we need to come up with ways to manage it. As we said before, stuffs always gonna. Keep happening.

[06:59] So if you, if you try and keep that healthy lifestyle, your diet exercise, it’s going to work that well with that one. I’m giving sample. Here we go. So when you have your diet, eating right, exercise and meditation, stress is still gonna happen, right? But hopefully you’re doing all of that because if you get a good balance of it, your cups never going to overfill because the meditation exercise and your diet is going to constantly help you manage your stress. Keep it low enough so when more stuff happens, you’re not going to overflow because you’re able to manage it and keep it flowing. So that’s my little example. I hope you guys got something out of this and if you have any questions you can always shoot me a message. I prefer it to be in our facebook group Brotherhood coaching because this way we can share the message to other people.

[07:50] And um, so once again, guys stresses always. It’s never going to go away. It’s going to keep happening to us. We got to figure out healthy ways to manage it and not rely on just other people to know, I have this issue. What are you doing to help you? Because at the end of the day I learned this from a retired detective and a on a trip to Vegas in my early twenties. He goes, hey, and in the day, no one else is gonna. Look after you like you will. So look after yourselves and come up with these good habits. Help manage the stress you have. And do me a favor. If you liked this, he get something out of it. Share it on with somebody else who will appreciate it too.

What Really Upsets Me… Tips for How To Manage Being Triggered

In this episode, I discuss what really upsets me and how to manage the triggers that upset us.

The three main points I go over are:

  1. How I allow myself to get upset and lose my cool
  2. How to look for a lesson in everything
  3. Do not compare yourself to others.  Strive to be better than you were the day before

[00:02] Have you ever gotten tired of being sick and tired and getting frustrated?

What I want to share with you is the one thing that really ticks me off.

what ticks me off the most is that I allow myself to get upset and frustrated. I get upset over things that I may not have control over or things that are outside my realm of influence.

that is what bothers me. I know I’m in control of how I respond to things yet I let them bother me.

You see when we lose our cool, we get upset, we feel like we’re out of control.

So the one way to correct that is to stay in control of your emotions. I used to think that learning and implementing different habits was going to stop myself from losing my cool.

[00:57] And what I found was it doesn’t because we were more emotional, right? You’re still gonna have those triggers that are going to happen to you. You start to learn to control them a little bit. You get frustrated a little bit less. you when you lose your cool, you not thrown anything, you’re just kinda getting a little bothered and you get over it. You start to just, it’s like you’re coming along and then you get frustrated, you get a little dip and you correct and your back. You’re good. Where if you’re not trying to take control of your emotions are or have some good habits to deal with that then you kind of hit that low and you stay down and that’s when you get miserable. And you see people like that, you know, nothing. Nothing can go good there.

[01:35] Just always miserable and no one wants to be around them, right? Because they can’t get back out and recorrect. So the thing is though, don’t beat yourself up. Right. Um, and I was starting to do that and I, you know, because I’m like, hey, why am I getting upset? I shouldn’t be. Well, you’re going to, but just don’t stay ticked off you correct.

You find there, because there’s, there’s a lesson in everything that happens to us, look for the lesson learned from it, and then correct it and do what you can to make things better because you should really only try to be a little bit better than you were yesterday.

Don’t compare yourself to somebody else because you don’t know what’s going on in their life. You have no ideal. Everything in my life know stuff might look cool here, but you know, I got some issues over here.

[02:14] We all do. So don’t compare yourself to other people. Just try to be a little bit better than you were yesterday. Maybe work out a little harder today than you did yesterday. Be a little bit nicer today than you were maybe to some people yesterday. So the only competition you have is actually just to be a little bit better than you were the person the day before. So hope you got something out of this. And um, if you did, do me favor and share it up with somebody else.

Foundations of Overcoming The “NO”

In this episode, I discuss overcoming resistance by the decision makers to implement change that you want.

  1. you want to Sell
    Facts tell, stories sell,
  2. Effort
    how hard did you try?
    Do More
  3. A confused mind will always say no
    Be Clear

Video Transcript:

This episode is going to be about overcoming the no.

So what am I talking about? I’m talking about you’re trying to drive some change. You’re trying to make a situation better. Unfortunately you’re getting told no by someone who actually is a decision maker. So what I want to do is talk about overcoming that resistance because a lot too often a passionate people here. No, they get shot down and then they close up close up shop and they’re done.

They check out and that’s not the best way of going about it.
What you may not know is I get told no way more than I get told yes. I’ve had thoughts, ideas. I come up and either comes down to money or someone putting in the work for whatever it is.
And I get told no. But what I’ve learned is how to start getting the yeses. And what it really comes down to is, is part number one is what this is, is you have to sell.

I used to have a guy on my crew and he made a very good living selling mattresses and furniture. He would tell us some of the lines he had of how to make sales. It’s about giving that other person an emotional aha. So a good way for this is understand this facts tell, but stories sell for some reason.

You want to make that change. Well, something happened to you there. You had the epiphany moment, the Aha, and you realize, hey, this is a best practice. So you have to give that experience to the person you’re trying to sell.

If you can give that experience to them then they’re going to come to the same conclusion you did.

So remember that facts tell stories sell. You have to sell whatever you’re doing to them and using stories helps with that.

The second part is effort. How hard you actually try.

Did you volunteer to do the work?
Did you do all the leg work to where you brought the proposal to them and said, hey, this is what’s going to cost.
So you have to ask yourself, have you done enough?
What more can you do with that?

You can always do more in a situation with it. you can convince them, Hey, this is the best practice. Hey, I found a grant that’s cannot take care of those of us money.

The third thing is to understand is that a confused mind will always say no.

You have to speak in a way so others can understand clearly.
Speak at a level where someone understands because if they’re confused at all about what you’re trying to present, they’re going to say no.

So make sure you’re clear.

keep things simple as they can be.

Don’t have complicated processes and don’t give up. It’s only when you give up that the answer is always going to be no. He might get a not right now. No. Which means you got to come back to table and present a different way.

So you really had to be resilient with it. And don’t let it stop you.

Don’t let anybody take your passion away for for this job because only you can let them.

Foundations of Overcoming The “NO”

Take care of them so they take care of you

The Team.

To me Team means Together Everyone Achieves More.

Its about the people you are side by side with.

I have strengths but I also have plenty of weaknesses. I lose my temper more than I want. I get frustrated more than I want. I skip more workouts than I want. I do not eat as healthy as I could.

But guess what?

I lose my temper a-lot less than I used to.
I get frustrated less than I used to.
I skip less workouts than I used to.
I also eat healthier than I used to.

The point is that we can never be perfect. We can strive to be better than we were the day before though.

We need to remember this when dealing with others also.

Point: Everyone has bad days. Be there for the team to help them so they can help you.

I mentioned earlier how with a team we can all achieve more by working together. When one struggles in a group, the group pitches in for them.

This is important because there will come a day when someone else in the group needs a helping hand. The person who was helped will be there for them also.

We have all had some type of help to get where we are today.

Spend more time helping those in your group to achieve more.

We can only go so far alone.

Story: Bad Mood Thursday

Last week I was having an off day. I had a plan of attack for the day and the day went sideways quick.

We had a last minute public relations event scheduled for us while we were off. It was our “truck” day. We had a variety of station repairs needing to be address. We needed our bunker gear sent out for testing. Oh, our engine was leaking water from the pump.

We had to prioritize and come up with a different plan.

I was a little overwhelmed already by the time we got to the public relations event.

Since its 90 degrees in the shade right now, we found a nice spot to setup. We were all set to do the fire extinguisher demo when a person from the business wanted us to relocate all of the equipment we had already setup.

He pointed to an empty field where there was no shade.

I explained that we setup in this spot for a reason and he interrupted me and stated that where it is usually done.

My response was “ok”.

My guys knew I was not happy with this interaction.
At the end of the day we were there to provide a service and that individual was sorta my boss.

A few minutes later my newest guy was talking to me and snapped me quickly out of the mood I was in.

I realized there was no point to being upset and we would get done what we could get done. People will be rude to us but we do not have to let it bother us.

This story illustrates how every member of your crew can help. The newer guy helped out the officer this time.

Remember:

Together Everyone Achieves More

Take care of them so they take care of you

Want to have your crew buy into what you are doing, but not sure how to get there?

Most people are always trying to influence other people to their way of thinking. We think that what we are doing is best so things would be better if others did what we do.

Well, here’s some stuff that might help with that. We model other people’s behavior that we’re around a lot. That’s why they say that you’re the sum average of the handful of people that you associate yourself with.

This is interesting because my children are young, and my daughter is a mini version of my wife. She learns by watching and mimics because that’s how she thinks to act.

This is like what we see at work. Think about it. Throughout your career, you’ve been a little bit different. Most crews model the behavior of their boss that they have.

They also model the behavior of those that are most influential in the group. An example would be the senior man or the defacto leader within the group.

We’ll model other people that we want to be like. ,

So if you want to have people buy into what you’re doing then you’ve got to be modeling that behavior first.

It’s a lot easier when you influence with your behavior. Instead of just telling people what to do, and complaining when they don’t meet it.

They might need help. Maybe they weren’t shown right, whatever it is. Get out there, sweat with them, help them with it.

In the end, we judge ourselves by our intentions. Other people judge us by our actions.

So lead with your actions, and display the behavior you want to see in other people.

Hope you got something out of this. If you did, do me a favor, share it with somebody else.

Want to have your crew buy into what you are doing, but not sure how to get there?
