Keeping Members Interested and Motivated with low call volume

Do you want to know the 3 simple steps every beginner needs to keep crew engaged in between exciting calls?

If you’re a firefigther who wants to keep your crew engaged in between exciting calls without losing momentum and having morale go down then you need to read this immediately to get started correctly with your efforts.

Step #1: Focus on the Basics

Have you ever heard “when you master the basic moves, they become advanced”.  There’s a reason for this.  The more you practice a skill set, the better you become at it. Have you ever seen a firefighter pull a line like it was their first time?  It probably was, that’s why they looked that way.

This step is important because we perform the way we prepare.  Whatever you do constantly, you will do well.  Whatever you do not do regularly, you will not be as good at.  The more we practice the basics, the more we can work any kinks out that we encounter.  We can prepare more for any variable we may encounter on scene.

“Lets look like we’ve done this before…..because we have”.

Here’s some advice to help you better focus on the basics.  Start simple.  PPE drills, Mask up drills, Hoseline pulls, Hoseline Management drills, Flowing drills, and Search Drills.  There are so many more, but these are a good start.

Step #2: Do Something Everyday

We signed up to be firefighters to do firefighter things.  So when a long period of time goes by and we do not do firefighter things, we lose momentum.  When we lose momentum in any part of our lives, we become complacent and our satisfaction level decreases.

This step is important because regularly overcoming challenges releases dopamine.  Dopamine makes you feel very good.  Want to feel good?  Get more dopamine by overcoming more challenges.

Here’s a tip to help you better do something everyday.  Create a plan to follow.  Map out all the functions you want to train on.  Then schedule one each day ahead of time.  We are more likely to do somethings once it is scheduled.

Step #3: Have Fun

We are more likely to do somethings when we enjoy it.  A lot of people figure out ways to gamify things in order to make them more fun.  If you’re putting on the drill, be excited about it.  Put some thought and work into it so the people doing it get a lot from it.

What I have done to gamify trainings or drills is to add a time element and an award at the end.  Maybe loser’s buy the winner’s dessert.  Competition brings out effort from people.  Figure out ways to turn your training into a game that entices the participants to win.

Now that you’ve got the beginner steps for Keeping Members Interested and Motivated with low call volume success down, I’d like to invite you to take the next step with your (free) instant access to “Fix Your Firehouse”

If you’re a firefigther who wants to create your own winning team in your firehouse without losing momentum and having morale go down then “Fix Your Firehouse” will help you!

The Truth About Taking Things Personally

If you’re ready to feel less trapped by other peoples opinions, then this taking things personally tip holds the keys you need if you want to avoid having to worry about what others think about them and feel like they must always walk on eggshells around others.

#1 Taking Things Personally Tip : Do Not Take Anything Personally

The bottom line with this tip is Stop taking what other people think or say about you personally. You only take it personally when you agree with whatever was said. Peoples opinions of us are just a reflection of that person. It actually has nothing to do with us. A great example is when a person achieves something that you wish you would’ve have achieved. If you have ever thought negatively about that person for their success it is because your own ego was hurt so you look for reasons why that person is not as successful. A phrase one of my guys has said in the past that reflects this is “people are happy you are doing good, just not better than them.”.

So, this means You do not have to take offense to anything anymore unless you want to. When you take things personally you are assuming everything is about yourself. This is a selfish act. Do you know anyone that every day seems to have some new thing that upsets them and is the reason they are suffering? .

This is important because when you let go of the idea that other’s people’s opinions are a reflection of you, you set yourself up for happiness and success. Conflict comes from defending your beliefs which is a reaction to feeling offended when you take things personally. So how does reducing conflict in your life sound? .

So the thing for you to do here is to remember what you have learned here. Do not make assumptions and do not take things personally. Most sadness comes from those two things. You can become immune to gossip and haters by making a decision not to take things personally anymore. .

Still not convinced? Wellhere’s a free book for you we just published entitled “fix your firehouse” – you can grab it here: https://fixyourfirehouse.com

The Truth About Taking Things Personally

Set The Right Example For Others Without Having To Pretend That Everything Is Ok When Its Not

Article Title: Set The Right Example For Others Without Having To Pretend That Everything Is Ok When Its Not

If you’re excited to set the right example for others, then this trick holds the keys you need to succeed.

#1 Role Models Trick : Being A Positive Role Model

Here’s what you need to understand about this: there is a simple way to stay positive and be an influential role model to others. I just attended a recent conference and the closing speaker was the one and only Tony Robbins. The energy and mind shift this man brought to the event was amazing. It was a treat for me because I have always wanted to see Tony perform. The big ‘aha’ for me was when Tony was talking about how we change our state of mind with two actionable items. The items are our physiology (our body) and our focus.

This comes down to the fact that you will be able to shift your current mood within a few moments. You cannot be a positive influence for others when you are losing your cool every day.

This is key for anyone because How many times has a rumor, email, new directive, or change in operations made you enraged? How much time have you wasted being upset over something you had no control over?.

So now you need to do two things when you find yourself getting frustrated or upset.

The first one is to change your physiology (body). We do this by getting our heart rate up with some type of physical exertion. Go do some burpees or double-unders. Grab a high rise pack and sprint up some stairs. Get excited and give a hug to someone you are close with. These actions release happy hormones.

Now the second action to take is to focus on something else. Anything else, just make sure it is something you appreciate. Think about how your job is to help people on their worst day. Think about how every little kid looks up to you like you’re a super hero. Just change what you are focusing on. You’re not ignoring the item that upset you, you are just choosing not to sit and fester about it. All this does is make you miserable. I for one am tired of wasting any of my time being miserable..

And here’s one more thing before I forget. Did you know, if you’ve ever wanted a whole lot more detail about role models, this new FREE book has the answers every firefighter needs.

How To Reach The Goals You Say You Want In 3 Steps

Article Title: How To Reach The Goals You Say You Want In 3 Steps

Honestly, these 3 specific steps mean success or failure. This article will let you see how these 3 steps can jump start and sustain your getting what you want efforts. Even more important, you’ll see how they will let you avoid the common errors most firefighters make because they don’t know how to avoid them.

Step #1: What Do You Want?

Everyone need to understand that You need to know what you want in order to work towards reaching it.

What’s most important about this is that This helps you get clear on what’s important to you.

This will help you because This step helps you get clarity and stay focused on reaching the goal that you want..

So now the thing for you to do is to Take a few minutes every day or week and write down what you actually want to accomplish.

Step #2: How Are You Going To Make It Happen?

Here’s a simple step everyone needs to understand – You made your outcome clear in the first step, now you need to know how to take action to reach the outcome.

Truth: If you figure out the action step thats needed ahead of time, it makes it easier to make it happen later that day or week..

This step is very important to every firefighter because In order to reach the goals we want, we need to make it as easy as possible to take action on them. The more complicated an item is, the harder it will be to take action on it..

My suggestion to you now is to prioritize these actions steps to be accomplish as soon as possible each day. The more you put them off, the less likely you will actually do them..

Step #3: DO THE WORK

The #1 thing you need to understand with this is this: We don’t get what we want, deserve, or think we should get. We only get what we are absolutely 100% committed to..

Bottom Line: that if you do not have what you want, it simply means you have not done the work to achieve it yet..

You need to understand this spells the difference between success and failure because we waste too much energy and time making excuses why we have not had the success we want. Stop making excuses and having pitty parties for yourself. In the end, it comes down to you and the work you are doing or not doing..

And that leads us to the fact that you should Do the work you say you’re going to do. Want a better body? Workout every day, eat whole foods, and stay away from processed food..

Looking at the big picture, these 3 getting what you want steps add a big advantage for you as a firefighter. But never forget that getting getting what you want success and moving to the point where you reach the goals they say they want takes a lot more than you learned so far. Think of the article here as just the start of your journey towards getting a lot more facts about what it takes to join the ranks of successful firefighters.

The Quick And Easy Way To Spend Less Time Being Frustrated

Every firefighter wants to spend less time being frustrated and that’s a fact! Here is a tip that will guide ANY firefighter who needs to change the story that they keep telling themselves that takes them down the wrong path.

Tip: Stop Thinking Everything Is 100% True

The big a-ha for you with this is that the world is a projected image of our thoughts. So when you assume all the negative gossip you hear is true, you start viewing the situation it is about in a negative way. Most likely this puts you in a crappy mood also. .

So, here’s what this means: you can instantly keep an upbeat attitude when you hear negative gossip. .

You need to understand this tip is key because we waste way too much time being upset or disgruntled in situations where what we are upset about never happened. .

So the next step for you here is to ask yourself if you know that what you just heard is 100% absolutely true. Odds are it is not and it is only being spread because it is dramatic and negative.

Here’s a trick I’ve done. You like pineapples? I love pineapples. They are sweet, juicy, and delicious. Guess what? You are thinking about how amazing something is right now and nothing negative. You’re welcome….

Changing your thoughts, Changes your mood.

Maybe a you just needs a jump start (or a swift kick) to get moving with changing your story. Maybe this article will be just the thing to help you move ahead ASAP and spend less time being frustrated. As you move forward, don’t forget the tip you learned from us. They will definitely help you achieve the goals of a successful firefighter without having to keep believing that everything they hear is true.

And here’s one more thing before I forget. Did you realize, if you’ve ever wanted a whole lot more detail about changing your story, this free book “Fix Your Firehouse” has the answers every firefighter needs.

Driving Choices with Experiences

[spreaker type=player resource=”episode_id=14237300″ width=”100%” height=”200px” theme=”light” playlist=”false” playlist-continuous=”false” autoplay=”false” live-autoplay=”false” chapters-image=”true” hide-logo=”false” hide-likes=”false” hide-comments=”false” hide-sharing=”false” ]

A lot of job is learned by experiences.

We call this “On The Job” Learning.

We learn what works from success we have

and We learn what doesn’t work from failure we have.

These experiences help us evolve over time to become better.

But guess what?

We all have different experiences along our career.

These experiences could be from calls or trainings you’ve attended over the years.

So how can you get others to understand a better way if they have not had the same experience as you?

I’m mean lets face it,

If we all had the same experiences,

We would be acting pretty similar.

Thats not the case though

This weeks episode I discuss Sharing your ideas and experiences in a way that makes change.

I share the following stories to help:

[bullet_block style=”size-16″ small_icon=”1.png” width=”” alignment=”center”]

  • You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink…..so make him thirsty on the way there
  • How the a radio strap study made change
  • How my wife was ruining pans with cold water

[/bullet_block]

The biggest take away I want everyone to get is:

“You have to convince people emotionally first before they’ll be excited by your logic”
– Russell Brunson

Keep this in mind when you are sharing your ideas and experiences with others.

The reason you bought into the way you are doing things is because you
were convinced emotionally first.

This is what I like to call an “a-ha” moment.

Give the other person an “a-ha” moment,

So they want to do something as oppose to being forced to do something.

Going from ME to WE

The other day, I was doing my daily reading and I came across this story:

It was the story of heaven vs hell.

In both stories, the people’s hands are made out of long cutlery.

So long that they cannot feed themselves.

In hell the people are unable to lift food to their mouths using their cutlery hands, and are starving.

In heaven, the people feed one another across the table and are full.

The story can encourages people to be kind to each other and to work as a TEAM.

This story got me thinking of when we get frustrated around our firehouse.

Most of the time it is because we are focused on ourselves.
We don’t like something that is happening which affects us.
Maybe we don’t like something that doesn’t affect us.

Things will only get better when we turn our focus to the whole TEAM.
Ask yourself: “how can I make the situation better?”

Focus on the result of making the situation better.
Not on who should or should not be doing what.

We all have our roles to play on the Team.

The more we take ownership of issues and work to solve the problem.

The less problems and frustrations there will be.

The US vs THEM Mistake…

Theres a trend that happens within groups that normally starts out with good intentions.

Groups of similar minded people form within larger groups.

These groups can be good by sharing ideas and helping each other.

These groups make a wrong turn when they turn to an US vs THEM stance.

This could be:

line personnel vs administration
station vs station
shift vs shift
Motivated vs less motivated

We forget we are all FIREFIGHTERS.

I’m guilty of getting wrapped up with this type of thinking.

We all have strengths and weaknesses though.

When we divide ourselves, we become weaker.

“For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.”

― Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book

Keep this in mind when you see an issue.

The more we help each other, the stronger we will all be.

I’m fortunate to have a team that we look out for each other.

We let each other know when we are slacking or need to be made aware of something to address.

Everyone could use a helping hand at times.

You ready to help?

The other day my crew had one of THOSE days.

Like anyone else we like routine.

This day was anything but.

Both my units were separated either in a TANTALIZING HR class (insert sarcasm)

or covering other stations.

A steady stream of calls is normal but not being separated and caught up with the less desirable duties of our profession.

I’ll hand it to the guys though, they made the best of it.

So this brings me to this weeks episodes topic of the beginner’s guide to Brotherhood Coaching.

I discussed using Brotherhood Coaching to help you stay into the job.

Why stay into the job?

if you want to stay engaged, be satisfied, and stay in the fight against negativity and complacency so you can wage war on your day, this will help!

It comes down to who you surround yourself with and fighting the frustration.

Listen.  I was not in the best of moods on this day.

I knew it.  My crew knew it.

We are HUMAN.

We realized it. And will make sure not to make it a normal attitude.

So surround yourself with good people.

Build each other up.

Forgive yourself when you falter.

It can be challenging at times to stay positive but you make the experience much better when you do.

Dont just view yourself as a firefighter for your department.

View yourself as a firefighter in the fire service.

Anyways if you’re not already apart of the close facebook group, you can join HERE.

“How to How To Stay Positive And Make Everything Work Better At Work And In Life Like a Pro”

In this post, I discuss doing the opposite of what most do when they get frustrated.

So if you want to be happier, solve the issues they are having, and keep high morale of their crew so you can how to stay positive and make everything work better at work and in life, keep reading!

In this post, you’ll discover:

– The major misconceptions about problem solving that cause firefighters to take the wrong path and waste months, if not years, of effort

– The perfect mindset every firefighter should have about problem solving that virtually guarantees their success

What misconception am I talking about? If you’ve been on the job any length of time, you’ve experienced frustration with ranks above you. What was your response to your frustration?

Did you disengage?
Call it quits?

OR

Did you help get the result you wanted by doing more work than you thought you should have to?
Did you regroup and flank the decision maker to get buy in to whatever you wanted?

Unfortunately, most of us disengage when we get frustrated.

We throw our hands up and go through the motions.

This won’t get the results we want.

To get what we want, we have to do the work necessary to achieve it.

No mater what our opinion is of what we should or should not have to do.

I say this because when I’ve gotten frustrated and quit, I never got what I wanted.

However, when I’ve decided to do more work than maybe I think I should have to, I ended up getting that result I wanted.

This job is too great not to enjoy it. I hate seeing frustrated firefighters.

This is why I created the book “Fix Your Firehouse”.

To provide a template for others to follow to be successful.

If you don’t have it yet and are interested, I’m offering it for FREE right now.
